0:19

today I'm going to talk about the

0:21

supermarket. This is a useful topic

0:25

because most people buy food from

0:28

supermarkets. One important note, in the

0:31

US, many people use the phrase grocery

0:35

store instead of supermarket. I usually

0:38

say grocery store, but you can use both.

0:42

So, first let's talk about big

0:45

supermarkets.

0:47

The most famous supermarket is Walmart.

0:50

Walmart is really big and sells many

0:54

items. They sell food, clothes,

0:58

electronics, furniture, and much more.

1:02

Walmart has everything. In big

1:04

supermarkets, there are a lot of cheap

1:07

items. Personally, I don't like big

1:11

supermarkets.

1:12

I prefer smaller supermarkets because

1:16

they often have better products. I like

1:19

to buy organic food, so I search for

1:23

small organic stores. These stores are

1:27

usually more expensive than big

1:29

supermarkets.

1:31

Organic food is more expensive than

1:34

non-organic food, but I think it's worth

1:38

the price. In big supermarkets, I can't

1:42

find the products I like. That's why I

1:45

go to small local stores. There are also

1:49

some very small supermarkets, too. We

1:52

call these convenience stores. For

1:55

example, 7-Eleven is a convenience

1:59

store. These stores sell some food and

2:02

drinks, but they don't have a lot of

2:05

items. I go to convenience stores when I

2:09

need to buy just one or two items, but I

2:13

don't usually shop at convenience

2:15

stores. They don't have all the items

2:18

that I need. How about you? Do you

2:21

prefer big supermarkets, small

2:24

supermarkets, or convenience stores?

2:27

Some people don't go to supermarkets.

2:30

They buy their groceries online.

2:33

Nowadays, you can buy everything online.

2:37

You order it and someone brings it to

2:39

your house. This is becoming a popular

2:43

option. I order some items online, but I

2:47

don't order food online. Okay, now let's

2:51

learn some important supermarket

2:53

vocabulary. Our first vocabulary word is

2:57

cart. When you enter a grocery store,

3:00

you grab a cart. You put all of your

3:04

items in your cart while you're

3:06

shopping. Or, if you're only buying a

3:09

few items, you can use a basket, which

3:12

you carry. Our next word is aisle.

3:16

Aisles are the rows of products in a

3:19

store. You walk up and down the aisles

3:23

when you go shopping. The next phrase is

3:26

on sale. When an item is on sale, this

3:31

means that it has a lower price than

3:33

normal. I love when items are on sale.

3:37

Okay, one more word, cashier. The

3:41

cashier is the person that you pay when

3:44

you're done shopping. In the US,

3:47

cashiers are usually friendly. Nowadays,

3:51

in some supermarkets, you can pay

3:54

without a cashier. This is called

3:57

self-checkout.

3:58

Some people prefer cashiers, and other

4:01

people prefer the self-checkout option.

4:05

I like both options. All right, that's

4:08

all for today. Leave a comment and tell

4:10

me where you buy your food. And remember

4:14

4:16

the bell, and follow us on Instagram for

4:19

4:22

you next time.
