first of all we'd like to know a little

0:06

about you

0:07

so where are you from england

0:15

where are you from i'm from england

0:19

and well i was born in london but when i

0:21

was seven

0:22

years old was i six

0:25

no i think i was seven maybe i was six i

0:28

don't remember i have to ask my parents

0:31

but when i was young we moved to a small

0:35

town or a big village

0:39

maybe it's a small town it was a typical

0:41

english town

0:42

have you been to england have you been

0:45

to england

0:50

where are you from well i'm from england

0:53

i was born in london but when i was six

0:55

years old

0:56

we moved with my family to the english

0:59

countryside

1:00

to a typical quaint english village in

1:03

cambridge here

1:04

and that's where i grew up

1:13

welcome to the sixth video in my ongoing

1:16

series

1:16

on how to get the best score possible in

1:19

the cambridge

1:20

exams where i give tips and advice based

1:23

on my

1:24

experience of helping many students over

1:26

the years pass the exams

1:28

and today we're looking at speaking part

1:30

one

1:32

now this video is valid for the b2 first

1:35

c1 advanced

1:36

and c2 proficiency because really it's

1:40

the same advice

1:41

the thing that differentiates you in

1:44

levels is how you answer the questions

1:47

so the vocabulary you the grammar you

1:49

use but

1:50

the advice is is basically the same

1:53

so i have some good news the speaking

1:56

part one

1:57

is possibly even probably the

2:00

easiest part of the whole exam

2:04

but that doesn't mean you can relax no

2:07

and there's two reasons you can't relax

2:09

first of all

2:11

this is the first opportunity you have

2:13

to speak directly to

2:14

the examiners and first impressions

2:17

count

2:18

so you have to make sure you make a good

2:20

first impression

2:22

secondly you have to see this as an

2:25

opportunity to demonstrate

2:27

your level of english the bad news is

2:29

you will be

2:30

nervous okay that's inevitable unless

2:33

you're one of those

2:34

few lucky people who just don't get

2:35

nervous in these situations

2:37

you will be nervous but you have to see

2:40

that this is an opportunity

2:42

it's it's an opportunity to demonstrate

2:44

your fantastic level

2:46

okay so see it in a positive way

2:50

so what is speaking part one well it's a

2:53

short conversation between the examiner

2:55

and each candidate individually and the

2:58

focus is on general social and

3:00

interactional language

3:02

so the examiners will usually ask one or

3:04

two questions

3:05

about the the candidate themselves and

3:08

then they will ask more general

3:09

questions about other subjects for

3:11

example

3:12

their leisure time their studies their

3:14

future plans

3:15

travel holiday experiences and their

3:18

daily routines

3:20

so how should you answer those questions

3:22

well

3:23

as you can see in the example at the

3:25

beginning of this video

3:27

the first attempt of the the candidate

3:29

was

3:30

too short england is not enough of an

3:33

answer when somebody asks you where are

3:35

you from

3:36

you need to elaborate a little more the

3:38

second answer was bad because it was

3:40

sort of rambling it wasn't focused or

3:43

concise

3:44

the candidate did not take advantage of

3:47

the opportunity

3:49

trying to remember if he was six or

3:51

seven when he moved and if it was a

3:53

village or a town where he lived

3:55

it's not important and in the end he

3:57

didn't say much at all

3:59

the second thing he asked questions to

4:01

the examiner and to his partner

4:03

which you don't do but the third answer

4:06

was perfect

4:07

it was answering the question and then

4:10

elaborating a little bit more but not

4:12

too much it was concise

4:14

and it used good vocabulary like quaint

4:17

grow up moved so that's a perfect

4:21

length of answers not too short it's not

4:23

too long

4:25

that's what you need to be aiming for so

4:28

let's look at some more

4:29

good examples of answers to other

4:31

questions now

4:32

so these these are only good examples no

4:34

bad examples this time

4:38

what free time activity do you enjoy

4:40

most

4:41

well to be honest nowadays i prefer to

4:43

spend my free time at home

4:45

binge watching on films and series

4:48

although i do meet up with my mates

4:50

occasionally

4:50

just to catch up do you like using the

4:53

internet to keep in touch with people

4:56

yes and no i think the internet is a

4:59

good option

5:00

for small talk and non-important

5:02

conversation

5:03

but if i want to have a deeper more

5:05

profound conversation

5:06

and put the world to write i'd rather

5:09

meet in person

5:10

how important is it for you to spend

5:12

time with your family

5:15

very important despite the fact that i

5:17

live in a different country to my family

5:19

i cherish the time that we spend

5:20

together and i often get homesick and i

5:23

miss them terribly

5:25

so there you can see the perfect answers

5:28

for those questions

5:29

not too short not too long fluent

5:32

no hesitations and no um

5:36

and using good vocabulary now don't

5:38

worry some of that vocabulary is

5:40

proficient vocabulary so if you're

5:42

studying for the first don't

5:44

panic and think you have to use that

5:45

type of vocabulary

5:47

but you should try to include as much

5:50

impressive vocabulary as possible into

5:52

your answers

5:53

it's an opportunity remember as i said

5:56

you will be nervous

5:57

that's okay the nervousness will help

6:00

you focus

6:01

but this speaking part one is a good

6:02

opportunity to start to relax to get

6:05

used to the environment you're in

6:08

speaking to the examiner

6:09

and just calm down for the next parts of

6:12

the speaking

6:13

which are more difficult and speaking of

6:16

the next parts of the speaking

6:18

my next videos will be focused

6:22

specifically on each level so i will do

6:24

one video for the first

6:26

certificate the b2 first another video

6:29

for the c1 advanced and another video

6:31

for the

6:32

c2 proficiency for each part of the exam

6:36

so i recommend you subscribe so you

6:38

don't miss them and other future videos

6:40

i'll be making

6:41

coming soon okay thank you for joining

6:43

me i hope this helped

6:44

let me know in the comments if you have

6:46

any other tips or questions and i'll see

6:48

you soon for another video

6:52

bye
