you want to tell the story you tell the

0:01

story I always tell the story so I was

0:04

in the kitchen getting a drink and you

0:06

came in with all these watches up your

0:08

arm what like you're just you're so

0:10

amazing and I don't know you don't

0:12

really seem to know it that much I think

0:15

uh best feature is our

0:17

honesty as a um a genuine person uh a

0:21

true a true friend your smile is

0:24

probably the best thing my darling I've

0:27

not got the best health um and he's

0:30

stuck with me through all that Hospital

0:33

admissions and things like that a lot of

0:35

people wouldn't who in your opinion made

0:37

the first move him I asked for his

0:40

number as well and you asked for mine so

0:42

yeah it was same ha welcome to a new

0:46

episode of easy English so a few weeks

0:48

ago we produced an episode about how

0:51

people met and about their relationships

0:53

to our surprise the video did quite well

0:55

considering it was a positive subject

0:58

but who doesn't love love huh so we

1:00

thought we'd come back to Brighton and

1:01

ask the same question all over again to

1:03

new couples here we go how did you two

1:07

get to meet each other well we met at a

1:10

party we met at work yes you're not

1:14

supposed to but you do we were working

1:16

abroad in Greece we did a contract um

1:21

with a family resort okay so we were

1:24

entertainers there we met in the ship

1:26

hotel in

1:28

Brighton uh 49 years ago you went to

1:32

college with my friend's brother and he

1:36

came back to her house one night and um

1:40

that was it really I was doing a lot of

1:41

bike riding with my friend uh and he was

1:46

meeting his M and her friends in Hyde

1:49

Park okay he asked if I wanted to come

1:51

along for a long ride um and I was up

1:54

for that so we went to go and meet his

1:56

Ms and her friends and lves was one of

2:00

her friends and we were playing card

2:02

games and we just hid it off straight

2:03

away it was a friend's 40th birthday

2:07

party and you worked with the guy didn't

2:10

you and I came with a friend um who uh

2:15

it was her husband's party as soon as I

2:18

saw

2:19

him well it was over a period of it was

2:21

over a period of about a year that we

2:23

really got to know one another but when

2:25

we first trapped TI on one another we we

2:28

um yeah yeah we first first sight 25

2:32

years nearly so we were both part of the

2:35

the evening entertainment car so we put

2:37

on like shows and did like entertainment

2:38

for the kids and stuff like that and uh

2:40

we were on the same cost and that's it

2:42

sort of went from there we were friends

2:43

at first and then yeah it happened natur

2:46

every time that's lovely yeah we met in

2:49

barley in

2:50

1988 um okay just like that on a holiday

2:55

both of you traveling yeah uh I was

2:57

working in the housekeeping Department

3:00

and Dennis came there to work just

3:03

temporary in the summer and we met after

3:06

that day we spoke nearly every single

3:08

day and went on a date to Q Gardens and

3:12

yeah been married for nearly two years

3:14

got two children wow um yeah that's it

3:18

it was in North London I lived in Kent

3:20

yeah uh so I came over to attend the

3:23

party and met my hus well he's now my

3:25

husband yeah it was really a cool time

3:28

actually this is in 99 wasn't it yeah it

3:32

was yeah and then we sort of got

3:33

together in 2000 okay so but it was

3:37

these the parties were legendary really

3:39

weren't they they were pretty wild they

3:41

were good fun so playing it down a bit

3:45

yeah yeah yeah so yeah so we just we

3:47

would just go out and about and every

3:49

time he went along I'd make sure I was

3:52

there and I think he was the

3:58

same

4:55

4:56

membership now back to the episode

5:04

[Music]

5:09

can I have more information as to like

5:12

on the beach or in a bar or in a bar

5:16

okay and then we spent three weeks

5:18

together there so I was in the kitchen

5:19

getting a drink and you came in with all

5:22

these watches up your arm what he had

5:24

all

5:26

these it was really funny it was over

5:29

thirsty years ago yeah digital watches

5:31

were quite new um they were cheap they

5:35

were only like a pound each okay and it

5:38

was a bit of a joke he had all these

5:39

watches up his arm just to

5:42

impress yeah and so were you introduced

5:45

to each other or is it just cuz you were

5:47

working in close proximity we're opening

5:49

the store together basically cuz we we

5:51

uh the store we were to obviously wasn't

5:53

there when we first obviously in our

5:55

town where we live and um yeah basically

5:58

she just uh well we just kind of met

6:00

just join the bill so I think okay I got

6:02

talking to her and then obviously um

6:05

started going out after that so did you

6:06

make the first move I believe so yeah he

6:10

did yeah I think it was equal cuz I

6:12

asked for his number as well and you

6:14

asked for mine so okay yeah it was same

6:18

same same and then can I ask who in your

6:20

opinion made the first move him yeah it

6:24

it was it was uh technically it was our

6:26

mate Marta this would been absolutely

6:29

nothing without her a setup yeah pretty

6:31

much um she would ask me cuz we would

6:34

have our the same day off together she

6:35

would ask me individually like Al what

6:37

do you think I'm like I don't know maybe

6:40

apparently she did the same to you she

6:41

did the same to me and Nicole had always

6:44

said that if uh if she's into someone

6:47

she'll happily just tell him and that

6:49

put me off for the longest time and then

6:52

Mar yeah Mar sort of good old Mar went

6:55

in there and became a little Cupid yeah

6:57

who would you say made the first move

7:00

do you know possibly

7:03

me is that right in your opinion I think

7:05

so yes okay who would you say you made

7:08

the first move going

7:10

back I'd say she did what would you say

7:13

with the eyes and I did with my feet

7:16

probably a bit of both could you say

7:19

what is the other person's best quality

7:21

in your eyes oh my gosh you are very

7:24

very understanding puts up with me I got

7:28

lot and that's yeah

7:31

oh I think his best quality is that he

7:34

is always very positive and he always

7:36

comes up with a solution when I'm like

7:39

losing my head at something so yeah he's

7:41

like the level-headed one that's good

7:43

that's a nice one he's put up with a lot

7:47

I've not got the best health um and he's

7:50

stuck with me through all that Hospital

7:53

admissions and things like that a lot of

7:55

people wouldn't he's he saved with me

7:58

through that and uh

8:00

you've been really good haven't you

8:01

really there's multiple um I'll let you

8:05

go first Jay is really good he's very

8:09

emotionally intelligent so he really

8:13

like listens to me and like find having

8:15

a bad day he really good at helping me

8:17

lift up without feeling judged okay it's

8:19

like very like I feel like we just

8:21

connect on a really emotional level best

8:26

qualities a good

8:28

temper

8:30

yeah yes she puts up with you yes shees

8:33

do if you would mind Orica tell telling

8:36

me what is Tony's Tony's best feature or

8:39

best quality

8:43

um gosh that's that's so many um he's

8:47

got a great sense of humor is possibly

8:50

one of the first and A really lovely

8:53

smile and he's very caring and loving

8:57

I'd say patience with him oh really

8:59

patience

9:01

kindness okay

9:04

lovingness me definitely you're very

9:07

caring most definitely yeah and he's

9:11

he's gorgeous to look at as well bless

9:14

got a lovely face that's one of the

9:16

reasons why I your smile is probably the

9:20

best thing my darling Arthur is very um

9:24

he plans thing like today we we live in

9:27

Kent but he planned this trip

9:29

to Brighton because I said to him I we'd

9:32

never seen Brighton Pavilion so he

9:35

planned when I said it a couple of weeks

9:37

ago he he just said oh we're going for a

9:40

trip and it was a surprise complete

9:43

surprise she's extremely loving and

9:45

caring and well since she's become a

9:48

mother I can see that that's

9:50

really uh grown and flourished well she

9:53

she's beautiful obviously so that's one

9:55

good thing SM she's into stuff that you

9:58

wouldn't normally

10:00

fine most girls are into she's uh more

10:03

geeky than anyone else really so it

10:05

helps compliments my hobbies as well so

10:07

that's nice again there are many but I

10:10

think

10:11

you're to like a benefit and a fault

10:14

like you're really just so humble like

10:17

you're just you're so amazing and I

10:18

don't know you don't really seem to know

10:21

it that much so yeah all all the great

10:23

things you do you don't take that much

10:26

credit for them I think I found Dennis

10:28

at the time he had a good sense of humor

10:31

and a hard worker and we like the same

10:34

things we had a lot in common I think

10:36

her best feature is our

10:38

honesty as a um a genuine person uh a

10:43

true a true friend what would you say is

10:45

the secret to a successful relationship

10:48

or marriage uh more

10:50

communication give and take give and

10:52

take

10:54

communication uh putting up with uh each

10:57

other's um no not eccentricities but

11:01

things that one person likes that that

11:03

the other doesn't particularly like but

11:05

we'll go along with it because they know

11:08

it would please the other person respect

11:11

really isn't it patience respect

11:13

patience yeah yeah you you say we don't

11:16

tend to argue that much but say if you

11:17

have any issues just talk about it

11:18

together and uh yeah I think time alone

11:21

as well to be honest having your

11:24

own uh your own things that you do being

11:28

your own person inide your own person

11:30

having a bit of space as well having

11:32

your own Hobbies what would you say is

11:35

the secret if you know what I mean to

11:37

maintain I you going to ask that

11:39

maintaining or keeping a healthy

11:41

relationship communication is

11:43

communication listening to One Another

11:45

listening sounds obvious does it it does

11:48

yeah absolutely understand Len

11:50

understanding them yeah um and just

11:52

being there um not ignoring one

11:56

another um if someone's had a bad day

11:59

you know we do have them you listen to

12:01

them and you talk we are very

12:04

communication yeah communication is key

12:06

we big on that okay but we are extremely

12:09

set on supporting and nurturing each

12:12

other and always encouraging each other

12:16

to progress yeah I think having the same

12:19

morals and core values oh absolutely is

12:22

like the the foundation to a good

12:24

relationship but but is that something

12:26

you have to find out at the beginning

12:27

like AB absolutely yeah okay and so you

12:30

figured that out that that is like the

12:32

foundation cuz if you don't have the

12:34

same core values it will come to a time

12:37

in your relationship where you're clash

12:39

and that could be like the end of your

12:42

relationship Jay again a cliche answer

12:45

but I think compromise compromise is

12:47

good realistically like you at the end

12:50

of the day like you care for each other

12:51

and you love each other very much but

12:52

you still different people say

12:54

communication but compromise I think

12:56

it's right up there accepting that

12:57

you're both individuals coming together

12:59

you don't have to do everything together

13:01

necessarily but you both communicate and

13:03

exactly as long as you keep you build

13:05

it's a relationship you're building

13:06

something together it's not one-sided

13:08

trust in each other yes I think so and

13:13

uh family we've got four grown-up

13:16

children seven grandchildren so you know

13:19

that's kind of like a glue that sticks

13:21

us all together I think

13:24

trust is um and

13:27

companionship really uh

13:31

honesty if you got them three things

13:33

we're not going to agree on everything

13:34

yeah but you can agree to disagree

13:37

without having to argue about it because

13:39

if she agreed on everything then that's

13:42

a bit strange so no we don't agree on

13:44

everything but yeah we we we uh I think

13:47

we have respect for each other yeah

13:48

which is most important absolutely do

13:50

you agree yes absolutely nice and we

13:54

have a lot of fun together we do laugh a

13:57

lot and we travel a lot still now and we

13:59

got two Great sons so we're very

14:01

fortunate thanks for watching this

14:03

week's episode please let us know in the

14:06

comments below what you thought of part

14:07

two of this episode and also if you're

14:10

in a relationship let us know how you

14:12

two met and as always we'll see you next
