did someone make the first move at the

0:01

Disco is that how it worked no it was

0:05

later um no it was well obviously

0:09

disagree on that's great interestingly

0:13

um we met on a train platform so I think

0:15

honestly from a trustworthy perspective

0:18

yeah oppos to honesty rather just out

0:19

and out brutality yeah I don't know I'm

0:21

a little bit

0:23

brutal somebody claims I pushed her over

0:25

a wall and the bus stop I deny that

0:30

said oh I think you would make a great

0:32

couple so it was a sort of blind date

0:35

wow we got talking and we was just sort

0:36

of friends weren't we for quite a while

0:39

he's actually forgotten hi welcome to a

0:41

new episode of easy English this week we

0:44

want to bring you part three of our

0:45

favorite series of falling in love

0:48

before we get started if you've not

0:49

watched part one or part two of this

0:52

series then click The Links at the end

0:54

of the video This is how couples met

0:56

each other here we go how did you two

0:59

meet each other

1:01

uh we met a long time ago in Bristol in

1:04

the west of England

1:07

um at a disco at a disco yeah so it was

1:10

at hve H train station on the platform I

1:14

saw a friend who was at Uni a couple

1:16

years below me I recognized him um so I

1:20

started to have a chat with him uh and

1:22

his his boyfriend was also they were

1:24

commuting up to London and his boyfriend

1:26

was with him Jason as well um and Sam

1:29

was their train buddy we got talking and

1:31

we was just sort of friends weren't we

1:32

for quite a while he's actually

1:34

forgotten partying

1:36

partying so no I wasn't their train body

1:38

CU I didn't know them CU you knew them I

1:40

didn't know any of you well how did you

1:42

get to I you were chatting with them

1:43

though no I honestly thought that you

1:45

were a train body with them I know so

1:47

let let me just correct you so so you

1:49

guys always knew each other before me

1:51

and I used to strut along and used to

1:53

sort of like check me out a little bit

1:55

and then um we we all started kind of

1:57

like recognizing each other on the

1:59

platform and and then eventually we did

2:01

get talking uh we met a college yeah and

2:06

then I became more associated with her

2:10

when I had a house party yeah well we

2:14

first met I did my work experience at

2:16

butlin's hotel which is now Grand Ocean

2:18

um apartments in when I was 14 and

2:22

Jackie had moved down for the Midlands

2:25

um and was working there as a

2:26

receptionist that's where we first met

2:28

and then um we drifted AP

2:31

for a number of years and did the

2:32

different things and then we met again

2:33

when when I was when we 20s 20 21 right

2:38

yeah so we've been together what 29

2:40

years now yeah nearly 30 years 30 years

2:44

yeah you can go first U we met through

2:48

friends so then we met through friends

2:52

um I worked with uh the boyfriend of

2:56

Lizzy's cousin boyfriend of lizz's

2:59

cousin I was very my cousin were we were

3:02

good friends as well same age so we went

3:04

out a lot and so so that's it and so so

3:08

then they said oh I think you would make

3:11

a great couple so it was a sort of blind

3:13

date oh wow and uh we met and that was

3:17

40 plus years ago so there we go years

3:20

ago congrats uh so we are both teachers

3:24

and we met at school working could you

3:27

then tell me how you two both met then

3:30

oh dear somebody claims I pushed her

3:33

over a wall in the bus stop I deny

3:37

4:37

someone make the first move at the Disco

4:38

is that how it worked no it was

4:42

later

4:44

um it was well obviously disagree on

4:48

that's

4:49

great we I think it was at the Disco you

4:52

approached me let's keep it

4:56

simple are you saying that you made the

4:58

first move of the push that's

5:03

so you did you keep in contact in this

5:05

this off period when you went back no

5:07

not at all not at all no it was it was

5:09

it was um it was a sheer fluke that we

5:11

met the second time around it was Jackie

5:13

was working with one of my one of my

5:15

friends girlfriends um and then my

5:18

friend and I used to go in the pub to

5:19

visit his his wife well what is his wife

5:22

now um and then we we met up again there

5:25

yeah that's amazing nice story we kind

5:28

of ended up as a couple he pretty much

5:30

moved in straight away he proposed three

5:32

months later and we got married uh 6

5:35

months after that wow so strangers on a

5:38

and it's our 20th anniversary this last

5:40

week perf I was going to ask that

5:42

congratulations that's great well I'm

5:45

glad that I'm also giving you guys

5:47

Clarity yeah just just to be clear and

5:50

how long ago was this this was

5:52

approximately 11 years ago 11 years 11

5:55

years ago we've been married for 48

5:58

years wow okay years known each other 52

6:03

is it 52 oh he knows all those things I

6:06

don't it was well over 40 years ago 1979

6:10

yes yes so that's how long we've been

6:12

together justco in Bristol yes nice and

6:17

then could have then ask um what would I

6:19

don't mind who goes first what would you

6:21

say is the best quality or feature of

6:23

the other

6:25

person

6:28

um what would you say is the best

6:30

quality of the other person his

6:33

personality and his

6:35

loyalty and what what about the

6:37

personality is inside that to be more

6:39

specific well it's been 30 years and he

6:42

can still make me cry with laughter he's

6:44

good fun and um

6:47

also uh very

6:49

trustworthy um yeah and very loving uh

6:54

Justin's patience for sure okay Justin

6:58

now for you

7:01

from that 11 years what would you say is

7:04

the other person's best

7:06

quality oh my

7:08

gosh um Lauren is I think uh the kindest

7:12

person I've ever met he's got such a a

7:15

pure Soul so you are so kind like I

7:19

think that you're I think that you're

7:21

incredibly

7:22

selfless

7:25

um that's very sweet it Evan's really

7:28

kind he's really nice and he's also cool

7:30

like he's got his own

7:33

style well there you go understanding I

7:38

think what would you say is the other

7:40

person's best

7:44

quality yours is

7:48

tolerance yeah I think so I think that's

7:50

probably a good yeah description yeah I

7:53

think probably honesty and we have a

7:54

laugh still don't we I think we still

7:56

friends before anything else I would

7:58

have thought is that fair to say yeah

8:00

and he's a great dad she's very very

8:04

reliable and and happy on the head yeah

8:09

she's

8:11

happy honest I'm sure that it's going to

8:14

be another 20 years of happiness you her

8:17

fun and crazy side that's the correct

8:19

answer that's a good one I love that

8:22

that's really good I would say that you

8:24

are very thoughtful you put everybody

8:27

else's knees before your own and that's

8:29

a really nice quity um K just has like a

8:33

really nice personality and I just like

8:36

to be around her all the time okay and

8:39

what would you say

8:41

them uh sticks at things uh he's

8:44

committed to things and sticks at it

8:47

okay as opposed to me who would just

8:49

give up I think that's why I think

8:51

that's quite a uh you know that's quite

8:54

a good thing to be he's very financially

8:58

aware stute as stute yes what would you

9:02

if you could come to an agreement on

9:03

what would you say is like the most

9:05

important quality in order to maintain a

9:08

relationship the

9:10

head um I guess the thing that people

9:13

always say but it it's true it's just

9:15

you know talking about things don't

9:19

um don't have secrets don't and try and

9:23

talk everything through and see if you

9:25

can find a solution if you know

9:27

communication yes yes yeah I agree with

9:30

that yeah yeah is what's the most

9:32

important bit they're talking or the're

9:34

listening uh there's no they're they're

9:37

equal equal equal difference for me for

9:39

me it was listening yes it was listening

9:42

yes to what what she wanted I think have

9:46

fun it is it and be like kids cuz we are

9:49

on a daily basis every month since we've

9:51

met in over 20 years we always do pinch

9:53

punch first day of the month without

9:55

fail no matter even if he's still asleep

9:57

stupid we'll plan it meticulously so

10:00

that we we try to win I feel like

10:01

loyalty definitely loyalty trust

10:06

um yeah just understanding each other

10:09

what would you say maybe the answer is

10:11

one of these is the most important

10:12

quality in order to be a good partner

10:15

honesty honesty yeah honesty brutal

10:18

honesty brutal honesty yeah I

10:21

trustworthiness I think I don't I don't

10:22

think it's just a question of honesty as

10:23

in how do I look today you look Dreadful

10:26

you could do better I think it's a

10:27

question of honesty that um

10:30

you know a reliability and a

10:31

trustworthiness I think honestly from a

10:33

trustworthy perspective yeah opposed to

10:35

honesty rather than just out and out

10:36

brutality yeah don't know I'm a little

10:38

bit

10:39

brutal I suppose I don't know give and

10:42

take give and take yeah yeah give and

10:44

take um it's not always it's not always

10:47

smooth but hey it uh you go over the the

10:50

rough bits and then there's smooth bits

10:52

again so there you go very good what

10:54

would you say is the most important

10:57

quality that has like kept you together

11:01

love love

11:03

trust

11:05

friendship tolerance

11:08

to we have to have do have to have s

11:10

girl

11:12

friends yeah

11:14

that's that's the most important thing

11:17

the most

11:19

important and keeping our family

11:21

together actually we're very close we

11:23

got a big family but we are very good we

11:25

got two girls in the brandom yeah that's

11:28

great that's really nice thanks for

11:29

watching this week's episode let us know

11:31

in the comments below how you met your

11:33

partner and what makes them so great and

11:35

as always we'll see you next time t i

11:39

could be maybe in the kitchen I'll just

11:41

try and pretend that I'm doing something

11:42

pinch punch the return so don't and you

11:46

have to do the no return but we do never

11:49

miss I go punch a kick for being I don't

11:51

know how many months you know 12 times

11:53

20 months whatever that is we've we've

11:56

never failed to do it I love it
