this video centered around the dagang

0:03

and our mission to change the way the

0:05

world views black fatherhood was

0:06

captured prior to the horrific killing

0:08

of our brother George Floyd and the

0:10

ongoing protests against police

0:12

brutality and social injustice that

0:14

rightfully followed as his videos being

0:17

released trained yet another dark time

0:18

in our nation's history the dad gang is

0:20

sensitive to the anger and the pain that

0:22

this tragedy has caused and we will

0:24

remain as a beacon of light and source

0:26

of empowerment for young black farmers

0:28

across the nation

0:34

you got him okay

0:36

when I started the day again my mission

0:38

was to challenge the negative

0:40

stereotypes of black father than one

0:43

image at a time you don't go in the

0:46

dryer okay

0:48

[Music]

0:54

my name is Shawn Williams and I'm the

0:57

founder and president of the dad gang

0:59

incorporate the dad gang is a support

1:01

group for blacks fathers and we are the

1:04

mission to change the way the world use

1:06

black dads I do agree there's a

1:08

misconception about black parenting of

1:10

black fathers in America that a lot of

1:12

individuals believe that we aren't

1:15

involved in our children's lives but

1:17

that can be further from the truth

1:18

media influence plays a very big role in

1:21

how the world perceives us we change the

1:24

way that people see us as black fathers

1:27

by doing this with the curl Ready Steady

1:33

Go

1:35

okay think I'm playing with you yeah

1:39

[Music]

1:42

my mission was to challenge that

1:45

negative stereotype of one image at a

1:46

time so I began to record videos of me

1:49

and my kids and the things that we do

1:50

every day then I started to upload them

1:55

soon other dad started to notice and

1:57

they began to send their videos too from

2:02

there the dad gang started become

2:04

popular then we decided to take it one

2:07

step further and started doing events

2:08

around the country suddenly we had a

2:11

movement we had a ton of events lined up

2:22

for 2020 a lot of activities a lot of

2:24

dad meetups a lot of panels the pandemic

2:28

kid is hard and pretty much trying to

2:30

stop everything after the lockdown we've

2:36

been doing remote activities like the

2:37

dad game dance challenge first select

2:40

the danceable song something cool that

2:42

we could groove to then find an open

2:44

space third find an item we've decided

2:48

to use a ball for this one and we're

2:50

gonna play hot potato with it

2:51

lastly you and your kids make up the

2:54

best silliest craziest dances you can

2:56

and show us your dance moves

2:58

[Music]

3:07

I'm proud to say that the dad gang has

3:09

been more active than ever that sense of

3:11

community really needed to kick in now

3:13

he really did I loved his way the

3:22

ultimate goal of that dance challenge

3:24

was to lighten the mood of what we're

3:26

going through especially right now

3:32

there's a lot of love and patience that

3:35

goes into even teaching our kids a

3:37

coordinated dance

3:38

[Music]

3:50

you know having a child and becoming a

3:52

father is a major life change and you

3:55

all need friends building you know

3:57

like-minded individuals especially when

3:59

we're going through major life changes

4:01

I'm inspired and my friends are inspired

4:04

but I just will be sure of each other

4:06

and the love that will be put into

4:07

raising our kids every day it's a job

4:10

that we're incredibly proud of and this

4:13

is really the true essence of what it is

4:15

to be a young black active dad dad you

4:20

okay

4:20

you did great that's a wrap

4:23
