But when I
4:10
continued to see that my mother and my
4:13
aunts weren't broken and they were
4:15
fighting for my innocence, I decided
4:17
that if I didn't have the energy to
4:18
fight for myself, I most certainly could
4:21
find the energy to fight for
4:23
them. I started to try to grasp the law.
4:27
I would get law books, law journals, and
4:29
read about attorneys who were litigating
4:31
cases in the state of Wisconsin. So, I
4:33
reached out to the Innocence Project,
4:34
the organization that advocates and
4:37
litigates on behalf of the wrongfully
4:38
convicted. Ultimately, they accepted my
4:41
case. The court unanimously decided to
4:44
overturn my conviction. I ended up
4:46
enrolling in a 4-year college where I
4:48
studied criminal justice. After
4:50
graduating, I obtained my law degree and
4:53
I became an attorney.
4:56
I had the opportunity to exonerate
4:58
another person and it was special to me
5:02
because it was in the same state in
5:03
which I was wrongfully
5:05
convicted. I've now open my own law
5:08
practice and I think that me coming from
5:10
a place like the criminal justice
5:12
system, being wronged, hearing the
5:15
stories and getting to know other men
5:17
who have been wronged, what better
5:19
advocate could they have but myself? I
5:23
strongly feel like this happened to me
5:24
for a reason. It was necessary to
5:26
encourage the greatness out of me.
