0:00

how often do you go swimming in the sea

0:02

when it's hot

0:06

obviously could

0:08

regret now I've come to see my sister in

0:11

Brighton uh and so the summer holiday

0:14

has begun it's it's kicked

0:16

off but yeah we get some ice cream for

0:20

the for the oldest there they are what's

0:23

your Festival goers tip for people

0:25

who've never been to music festival

0:28

Camp yeah to enjoy the British weather

0:32

but really interesting enjoyable and

0:36

sometimes downright

0:38

scary hi welcome to a new episode of

0:41

easy English so if summer coming to an

0:44

end and the kids going back to school

0:46

soon I wanted to know what Brits have

0:48

been doing on their summer holidays I

0:51

want to know if they've been abroad or

0:53

if the cost of living crisis has

0:54

resorted them to do a station here we go

0:58

what have you been up to on your your

1:00

summer

1:01

holidays just been camping haven't we oh

1:03

really camping at a music festival in

1:05

the rain in Wales Green Man festival in

1:07

Wales 3 days rained one day so we were

1:11

up to our knees in mud this year we went

1:14

to the aisle of white for a week um

1:17

about 20 minutes from Malaga my dad

1:18

lives out there we've spent a lot of

1:20

time down here on the beach so we went

1:22

to Vancouver drove North to Whistler

1:24

stayed there for about 9 days saw lots

1:26

of bears something very different about

1:28

walking in the wilderness in Canada you

1:29

seem to be whereare of the Bears um to

1:32

bring back at home um and then we went

1:34

across to Vancouver Island uh just whale

1:37

watching did lots of hiking saw lots of

1:39

waterfalls and now trying to get back

1:41

our body clocks um can you think no we

1:45

haven't done a great deal this summer

1:46

holidays cu the weather's been bad and

1:48

we haven't been away anywhere so we've

1:49

been mainly down here by the beach yeah

1:52

I haven't done much this summer cuz um

1:54

I've been with my wife and two daughters

1:56

and so we haven't had much time to do

1:58

anything but they've just gone to one

2:00

cuz she's taies and so now I've come to

2:02

see my sister in Brighton uh and so the

2:05

summer holiday has begun it's it's

2:07

kicked

2:08

off so we went to Cornwell this year

2:11

went to Cape Cornwell so St just as far

2:15

west as you can get really I traveled to

2:18

France I took the EUR tunnel to France

2:20

with my family and drove 7 hours down to

2:23

the Midwest of France I haven't been

2:26

away anywhere okay um but uh what I have

2:31

had is several lots of grandchildren

2:35

coming to stay for a week or so and um

2:39

that's been really really interesting

2:43

enjoyable and sometimes downright

2:47

scary and do do you frequent Green Man

2:50

festival a lot do you go every year we

2:52

go to festivals we haven't been to that

2:54

one before okay so we thought we'd try

2:56

something different and then of course

2:57

it rained and we won't go again why did

3:01

you pick the a of white um cuz it quite

3:03

easy to get to um degree of separation

3:06

so it's all felt like you're on holiday

3:08

but actually you didn't have to travel

3:10

that far it's a nice relaxed way of life

3:13

you know it's yeah cost a living crisis

3:15

over here and it's so much cheaper over

3:17

there yeah okay and is that a big pull

3:20

for most Brits you think to get away

3:22

from from England at the moment I think

3:24

this it's just the weather you know the

3:26

Brits are over there for the sunshine we

3:27

like walking on the Cs I like bit of

3:30

kayaking so King around the cliffs as

3:32

well kids like surfing senon we're not

3:35

far from senan Cove so uh I was going to

3:37

ask the water spots is quite a big thing

3:40

there right yeah are you both kind of

3:42

into like Wilderness he things then you

3:44

I definitely like the name was wasn't

3:46

camping it was in AET um but no

3:48

definitely like nature yes yeah walking

3:50

hiking being outside what's so good

3:52

about Sal Dean or Brighton Beach we just

3:56

go here randomly we make you go don't we

3:59

we have to wrestle you out the door so

4:01

you don't you don't like it I do when we

4:03

go swim but not when we're going on a

4:05

boring

4:08

walk it's a little bit quieter than

4:10

Brighton Beach so that's good that's

4:12

quite helpful especially when you got

4:13

two dogs and two children running riots

4:15

is that typical of like your summer

4:17

holiday do you often sort of think just

4:19

to stay here and enjoy pretty much these

4:21

days yes for the last sort of five or

4:23

six years yes and why why why is that

4:26

why would you say that is um a mix

4:29

things really um expense is one factor

4:34

and the fact that we live somewhere

4:36

where it's already the seaside so it's

4:40

it's very enjoyable just living here did

5:34

what's your what's your Festival goers

5:37

tip for people who've never been to

5:38

music festival don't

5:41

Camp don't Camp always take a b take

5:45

your

5:46

Wellington right take some wet wipes wet

5:50

wipes is really wet wipes is a really

5:52

good idea you don't want to be really s

5:55

ear plugs ear plugs yeah and anything

5:59

that will make you happy that's whatever

6:03

that might

6:04

be what do you recommend the most about

6:07

Brighton oh gosh that's a difficult one

6:09

it depends what mood I'm in okay but I

6:11

love the cafes I love the sea front just

6:15

the general Vibe is there a big Cafe

6:17

culture in uh Brighton or yes I think

6:20

there is yes there is now where you

6:22

going next year back to Malaga or no

6:25

actually we've just been there so we're

6:27

hoping to go well we're going to Poland

6:30

Christmas New Year nice and then we're

6:32

looking at Thailand or we look really

6:34

want to go to Canada so yeah we'll see

6:37

what would be your uh sort of typical

6:39

holiday destination you go to uh

6:41

probably we we I because we used to go

6:44

to Wales every year as kids and so I

6:47

wanted to take my daughter to Wales to

6:49

continue the tradition so we go to the

6:51

same places uh I'm scared of flying so I

6:54

I tend not to fly

6:56

places what is your plan for next year

6:59

or do you have a plan to go away

7:01

somewhere in the future if climate

7:03

change keeps doing what it's doing we're

7:04

going to be staying here take an

7:07

advantage of it next year unfortunately

7:09

for us it's stay in the UK a Stak oan

7:12

yeah we're going to go up to York though

7:14

I think and go and visit York or

7:15

Scotland history um because we want to

7:18

save up money for a

7:20

driveway adulting

7:23

so do you have any plans next year to

7:26

leave the UK or not not at the moment

7:30

but never say

7:31

never and can I ask um is it affordable

7:34

do you think for uh Brits to to go

7:37

holiday nowadays do you think well it

7:40

very much depends on what their income

7:42

is and I guess with the current cost of

7:44

living crisis fewer people feel able to

7:47

do that yeah nice lots of people have

7:50

mentioned that uh today actually yeah is

7:52

it typical that Brits state do like this

7:54

station I don't I don't think so most

7:57

people I know tend to fly somewhere it's

7:59

quite cheap cheap to fly flying tickets

8:00

are cheap you get the Eurostar which is

8:02

not quite convenient okay where where

8:05

did you get the Eurostar from do you

8:06

know get it from Kings Cross St panras

8:08

and then get it to Parris or Leon or

8:12

Amsterdam Brussels and that's affordable

8:16

it was when I found a discounted

8:18

ticket otherwise it was not not

8:22

particularly cheap what's your plans for

8:23

next year are you going to stay in

8:25

Brighton or you heading off on a holiday

8:27

somewhere maybe maybe not

8:30

okay very good where would you like to

8:31

go next year for your holidays my my

8:34

last hotel where was your last

8:37

Hotel

8:39
