Hi everyone. I hope you're doing well.

0:02

Welcome to a new episode of Easy

0:05

English. So, it's coming up to the

0:07

Christmas period in Brighton. So, I

0:10

thought I'd head down [music] and show

0:11

you guys what it's like to make genuine

0:14

conversation with strangers on the

0:16

streets. If this is something, a series

0:18

that you'd like us to carry on doing,

0:20

then a way to show us that you're

0:22

enjoying this is to subscribe to Easy

0:24

English. Uh this is genuine [music]

0:26

conversations with real strangers. Here

0:29

we go.

0:36

>> How did it go?

0:37

>> It was good. Excuse me. Productive.

0:40

Yeah, it was actually

0:42

>> Oh, sorry.

0:42

>> Hello.

0:43

>> Oh, hi.

0:43

>> Hi. [laughter] How's it going?

0:44

>> Yeah, not bad, thanks. You okay?

0:46

>> Yeah, very good. Thank you. Hi.

0:49

[laughter]

0:49

>> Uh, how are you? What you doing?

0:51

>> Oh, yeah. We're doing really doing

0:52

really well, thanks. Yeah. Yeah, we've

0:53

been through aquarium.

0:54

>> How are you?

0:55

>> Uh, yeah, I'm actually really good. Um,

0:57

even though I'm a bit cold, I'm I'm all

0:58

right.

0:59

>> Yeah, it is quite cold today.

1:00

>> Yeah. And what what are you up to today?

1:02

>> Oh, we've been to the aquarium today.

1:05

>> Really?

1:05

>> Yeah.

1:07

>> Excuse me.

1:08

>> Hey. [laughter] Hi. How are you?

1:09

right.

1:09

>> How's it going? You're all right?

1:11

>> Yeah, not too bad. Not too bad. Nice to

1:12

see you.

1:13

>> Nice to see you. How's your day going so

1:14

far?

1:15

>> It's going really well, actually. Yeah.

1:16

Just uh out doing a bit of shopping for

1:18

Christmas, but

1:19

>> struggling with ideas at the moment. How

1:20

about you? How's your day?

1:22

>> Uh, it's going okay. I'm a bit cold.

1:24

Been out here for a while now. Uh, and

1:26

but I finished my Christmas shopping.

1:28

Thank God.

1:29

>> Nice. Well, and prepared.

1:30

>> Yeah, it's a nerve-wracking thing, isn't

1:32

it?

1:32

>> It is. It really is. And it gets harder

1:33

and harder as you get older, I swear.

1:35

>> Hi.

1:35

>> Hi. Hi. [laughter]

1:36

>> How's it going?

1:37

>> Uh, well, we've had a lovely day so far.

1:39

We've been down on the beach along there

1:42

on the pier. And it's not raining and

1:44

it's sunny and it's the end of November.

1:47

How lovely is that?

1:48

>> How's it going? How are you?

1:49

>> I'm okay. How are you?

1:50

>> Yeah, I'm good. It's getting a bit cold

1:52

though, right?

1:52

>> It's a bit chilly if you ask me. Yeah, I

1:54

might have to go home soon. Uh, so how's

1:56

your day been today?

1:57

>> It's been okay, actually. I really hung

1:59

over. My friend yesterday I went out

2:01

with my friends.

2:02

>> Big night.

2:02

>> It was not really a big night. It was

2:04

half price. So I was like, "Oh, well."

2:06

Yeah,

2:06

>> like happy hour.

2:08

>> It was a happy hour. I work there.

2:09

Barbara, guys. Bunch of barbers. This

2:12

guy happy hour 4 to8. Perfect.

2:14

>> Hold on. Is this German bar?

2:15

>> And they get promotion here. Wait, what?

2:17

>> Yeah,

2:17

>> it's the German bar.

2:18

>> Yeah, the German bar. Yeah, the one that

2:19

goes like bum.

2:21

>> Hi.

2:22

>> All right. How you doing?

2:23

>> How's it going?

2:24

>> Yeah, not too bad, man. Not too bad.

2:26

>> Yeah. How's your day going today?

2:28

>> Really well, actually. Got very early.

2:30

Way too early. [laughter]

2:32

>> Um, drove all the way down to Brighton

2:34

in one go. So, that was fun.

2:35

>> Okay.

2:36

>> Um, and yeah, we're just enjoying the

2:37

sights, enjoying the views.

2:38

>> Okay. I guess where have you come from?

2:40

>> Swansea.

2:41

>> Really?

2:42

>> Yeah. Wow.

2:42

>> All the way down from Swansea.

2:43

>> And are you a Welshman?

2:45

>> I am. I am a Welsh man even though my my

2:48

name is Matteo. So, I'm I'm half

2:50

Italian, half Welsh. But that's a thing

2:52

in Wales, isn't it?

2:54

>> Yeah, there's uh there's quite a lot of

2:56

Italians down in South Wales.

2:59

>> I'm not sure. A lot came down in after

3:02

the First World War and after the

3:04

Second. Um I think they were just

3:07

migrating to be honest and

3:09

>> Okay.

3:09

>> enjoying different parts of the world

3:11

and they brought uh cafes, ice cream,

3:14

gelato, stuff like that down. And yeah.

3:17

>> How's your day going today?

3:18

>> It's really good. Yeah. My daughter's

3:20

getting married on Sunday, so we're just

3:22

getting the last few bits of stuff that

3:24

we need before we uh before we get ready

3:26

for the final the final countdown.

3:29

>> Wow. Is it a bit stressful or you

3:31

getting to the end of that?

3:32

>> I don't know. Is it stressful? It's

3:34

quite [laughter] stressful. Good

3:35

>> question.

3:36

>> Okay.

3:37

>> It is quite stressful.

3:38

>> Okay. So, what's the last things you

3:39

have to buy? What are you looking for?

3:41

>> Pull in pants.

3:43

[laughter]

3:43

>> Okay.

3:44

>> We're honest.

3:45

>> Yeah. Okay. You asked.

3:47

>> I'm from Sandwich in Kent.

3:49

>> I'm from Sandwich.

3:50

>> Yeah. So, a long way. [laughter] A long

3:52

way. So, I came down this morning on the

3:54

922 train.

3:55

>> Okay.

3:56

>> So, not far really on the train. It was

3:58

3 hours. So, it's not bad.

4:00

>> I've never been, but Sandwich would be

4:01

lovely. No.

4:02

>> Oh, Sandwich is really nice.

4:03

>> Okay.

4:04

>> Medieval town, a small town.

4:07

>> Um, near a castle.

4:09

>> No, that's Deal and Warmer, the castle

4:12

there. And of course, Dover

4:14

>> of course,

4:14

>> but Sandwich is more in in land a little

4:17

bit.

4:18

>> Okay.

4:18

>> So, yeah, medieval town. It's very

4:21

quaint,

4:22

>> bit like this sort of thing all around

4:24

there. So, yeah, very nice.

4:25

>> I was going to say, how does it compare

4:26

to Brighton?

4:28

>> Oh, it's tiny. So, it is tiny.

4:33

[music]

4:35

>> So, how are you enjoying the episode so

4:37

back to the episode.

5:49

>> Hi.

5:50

>> Hi. [laughter]

5:51

>> How's it going?

5:52

>> Good. How are you?

5:54

>> Yeah, I'm bit cold, but I'm all right.

5:57

Thank you.

5:58

>> This is so cold today.

5:59

>> It is. But you're wearing less clothes

6:01

than me, so you've got no excuse.

6:02

[laughter] I'm wrapped up nicely.

6:05

>> Yeah.

6:06

>> How's your day been going so far?

6:07

>> Yeah, good. A little bit stressful.

6:09

>> Oh, really?

6:10

>> Yeah.

6:10

>> Christmas period stress.

6:12

>> Yeah, just work's been kind of crazy

6:14

busy.

6:15

>> Okay. Where do you work?

6:17

>> In IKEA.

6:18

>> Oh, really? That can be stressful, I

6:21

guess.

6:21

>> Yeah. So, it could just be very busy.

6:24

>> Yeah. Right. And um what what part of

6:26

IKEA? What's your kind of job role? I

6:28

just do customer service, so I just talk

6:30

to people all day.

6:32

>> And how are people today?

6:33

>> Uh, people today are okay, actually. All

6:35

right.

6:36

>> It's just it's just that there's a lot

6:38

of them.

6:38

>> Okay. What's your like typical kind of

6:41

customer complaint or customer call that

6:43

you get?

6:44

>> Um, at the moment it's that it's way too

6:47

hot in the building, which is the one.

6:50

>> Oh, really? People who are shopping in

6:52

>> Yes. [laughter]

6:54

And the second one we get a lot is that

6:57

they hate self-service machines.

6:59

[laughter]

7:01

>> So, what have you got planned tonight

7:02

then? Friday night.

7:04

>> Well, you're probably pretty chill to be

7:06

honest. Um, we said we'd throw the

7:08

option of maybe going out

7:10

>> as an option potentially. Might consider

7:12

it. See where our energy levels are.

7:13

>> We've got some plans repotting. So,

7:15

>> we got some plans to repotting.

7:16

>> Maybe some monsteras.

7:18

>> We do have some monot.

7:19

>> We're going to get some hot chocolate.

7:21

>> Yeah. It's a nice and cozy time.

7:22

>> Yeah. Nice and wholesome evening.

7:24

>> Yeah. Yeah.

7:24

>> What's your plan for later? Are you

7:26

heading back to Sandwich?

7:27

>> Uh, no. I'm going on to the aisle of

7:29

white tomorrow.

7:30

>> Bloody hell. So, you stay staying the

7:32

night here?

7:32

>> Uh, staying the night here with with

7:34

family [snorts] and then the ferry

7:37

tomorrow to the aisle of white to see my

7:40

sister-in-law and then back again and

7:42

back to Sandwich. That's great.

7:44

>> So, it's all packed into a weekend.

7:47

>> And how's your Friday night going so

7:48

far? It's just beginning, right?

7:49

>> Friday's today, right? I've got work

7:51

today.

7:52

10 to 4.

7:53

>> Wow. What time do you finish?

7:55

>> Uh, not till 7:45.

7:57

>> No. And then what happens Friday night

7:59

at 7:45? Well, later on tonight. Friday.

8:01

>> Um, probably sleep, to be [laughter]

8:04

honest.

8:05

>> Do you enjoy the Christmas period? Is

8:06

that something?

8:06

>> I do. Yeah. I'm very much a Christmasy

8:08

person.

8:08

>> Oh, really?

8:09

>> Yeah. Yeah. I love Christmas.

8:11

>> What in particular do you like about it?

8:12

>> It's just the almost the magic of it

8:15

all. I mean, it loses it a lot when you

8:17

get older, but

8:18

>> it still feels like such a

8:20

>> There's no other word for it. Just a

8:21

magical time.

8:22

>> It's going to be time off work is going

8:23

to be my [laughter] favorite bit. And

8:25

then um Christmas dinner. Love Christmas

8:29

dinner.

8:30

>> Yeah.

8:30

>> Yeah.

8:30

>> What's your best bit of Christmas

8:32

dinner?

8:33

>> Um well, my mom has now started making

8:35

her own stuffing and it's it's the bees.

8:38

>> Are you uh are you looking forward to

8:40

the Christmas period?

8:41

>> Yes.

8:41

>> You are?

8:42

>> Yes.

8:42

>> You enjoy Christmas?

8:43

>> Yeah. It's nice. It's especially like

8:46

since I moved out, it's nice to like see

8:50

my family and spend time with them.

8:52

>> That's nice.

8:53

>> And stuff like that. So, yeah.

8:55

>> Okay. What's the best thing about

8:56

Christmas in your opinion?

8:58

>> Um, I think the food's pretty great,

9:01

right? Like,

9:02

>> do you enjoy Christmas?

9:04

>> Yeah.

9:04

>> You love Christmas.

9:05

>> What's your favorite thing about

9:06

Christmas?

9:07

>> Just being all together with my family.

9:10

>> That's sweet. Watching movies.

9:12

>> Yeah.

9:12

>> Watching movies. Movies. Food. Yeah.

9:15

>> What's your favorite thing about

9:16

Christmas?

9:18

>> If I was a kid, I would have told you

9:19

the presents, but [laughter]

9:21

but now I'd say it's being with my

9:24

family and my friends.

9:25

>> It's definitely spending time with

9:26

family.

9:26

>> Yeah.

9:27

>> Cute. That's so wholesome.

9:28

>> The Christmas dinner. [laughter]

9:29

>> Yeah. And the dinner. Yeah.

9:31

>> Well, everyone's mentioned the the

9:33

Christmas dinner.

9:34

>> Always. Always.

9:35

>> You looking forward to Christmas festive

9:37

periods?

9:38

>> Oh my gosh. 100%. I love Christmas. My

9:41

parents already like put everything

9:42

outside the door. So, it's got like all

9:43

of the lights like the Christmas tree.

9:46

>> They put like a deer and stuff.

9:47

>> Really?

9:48

>> Like a Santa Claus in a How do you call

9:50

that? The in the stairs.

9:52

>> Do you know the stairs to the window?

9:53

There's Santa Claus in my house. Yeah.

9:55

Listen, I'm pretty scared. I don't want

9:56

to go back. [laughter]

9:58

>> But it's it's

9:59

>> Your parents are into it.

10:00

>> Oh, they're so into it. Same thing. I

10:01

love it. I just I don't care about I'm

10:03

going to let them like if I do.

10:05

>> Hopefully they won't see this cuz

10:06

[laughter] things are going to ruin the

10:08

festive.

10:09

>> Yeah. Hopefully not. It's like when they

10:10

told me the Santa Claus was fake by so

10:12

much that day.

10:13

>> Nice. Well, thanks for speaking to me.

10:15

>> Absolutely. Thank you.

10:16

>> Have a nice rest of your evening.

10:18

>> Thank you so much. You too. [laughter]

10:20

>> Well, it was nice speaking to you too.

10:21

Nice speaking to you as well.

10:23

>> Well, thanks for that. Thank you very

10:24

much.

10:24

>> All right. Thank you.

10:26

>> Thank you so much. I really appreciate

10:27

your time.

10:28

>> So, how did you enjoy this week's

10:30
