0:09

And I'm Georgie.

0:24

Hi, Georgie.

0:25

Hello, Neil.

0:26

It's getting towards the end of the year.

0:29

It is.

0:30

How are you feeling about that?

0:32

Um, well, there's a few things that I wanted to achieve that I haven't,

0:37

so I don't feel good about that,

0:39

but I'm feeling quite festive and ready for those celebrations.

0:45

What about you?

0:47

Yeah. Time, time flies, as we say.

0:50

It's the end of the year again.

0:51

And that is what we're talking about today

0:54

in this episode of Real Easy English.

0:57

Shall we start?

0:58

Yes.

0:59

Have you had a good year, Georgie?

1:02

Yes, Neil. I've had a great year.

1:04

Um, I've been very busy.

1:06

I've had a few trips and I've also turned 30, so I've had a big birthday.

1:13

What about you? How has your year been?

1:15

Yeah, it's been pretty good.

1:17

I went to your 30th birthday party.

1:19

You did.

1:21

That was definitely one of my highlights.

1:23

Was it?

1:24

Talking of highlights,

1:26

now highlights are the most important or interesting thing.

1:32

What have your highlights been this year?

1:34

Well, my 30th birthday was probably one of my highlights

1:39

because I had friends and family from all over.

1:44

I basically invited everyone I knew, which is why you got the invite.

1:50

Um, and yeah, that was something that I was quite proud of because I am not

1:57

a very organised person.

1:59

And with this I was very organised.

2:02

What's been the highlight of your year, Neil?

2:05

Oh, well, that's a tricky question,

2:07

but I did go on a fantastic holiday with my family.

2:12

We went to Sicily.

2:13

Wow.

2:14

And it's so beautiful.

2:16

And the food was amazing.

2:19

And is there anything you're proud of this year?

2:22

Proud of?

2:23

Yeah, I'm always proud of my kids.

2:26

Aww.

2:27

They make me feel proud.

2:30

Um, yes, they they had a good,

2:32

they had a good year. And, um,

2:35

yeah, they both they both did well in their own way at school.

2:39

Oh. That's nice.

2:41

And how about you?

2:42

Well, I talked about being proud of my 30th birthday party,

2:46

but I also, um, performed at the Royal Albert Hall, which is

2:52

a big, famous, um, music hall in the UK, in London.

2:56

Um, I didn't sing as a soloist.

2:59

I sang with my choir, um, at the BBC Proms, which is a big music festival.

3:05

Wow. How did it feel to sing in front of all those people

3:08

in that incredible setting?

3:10

It felt incredible.

3:12

And I had lots of people I knew in the audience.

3:15

Actually, some of our colleagues came. Yeah.

3:18

Um, it was, the atmosphere was incredible, and I'll never forget it.

3:23

Wow. So, Georgie, is there anything that you didn't do this year

3:29

that you wanted to do?

3:31

Yes. Lots.

3:33

Um, I had lots of plans at the beginning of the year.

3:36

Um, lots of New Year's resolutions.

3:39

Like, uh, running.

3:41

I wanted to run more.

3:42

I have not been running very much.

3:45

Um, so I regret not doing more running.

3:49

And also my sugar intake.

3:51

We all know that I eat too much sugar,

3:54

and I wanted to reduce my sugar intake, but I find it too difficult,

4:00

so I regret not, um, reducing my sugar intake.

4:04

Well, you stopped having sugar in your coffee at least.

4:08

That's true. What about you, Neil?

4:10

Well, a bit like you,

4:12

um, I wanted to do lots of running. Actually,

4:16

I wanted to get really fit this year,

4:19

and I haven't because I hurt my ankle and I can't run.

4:24

And running is my main way of keeping fit,

4:27

so I need to find something else to do.

4:31

Yeah.

4:38

Time now to recap some of the vocabulary we've heard in this episode.

4:42

Starting with 'highlight'.

4:44

And a highlight is the best bit of something.

4:47

So the highlight of my year, Georgie, was my trip to Sicily.

4:51

Or was it your 30th birthday?

4:55

If you are 'proud of something',

4:56

it means you feel good about something you've done.

4:59

You can also be proud of someone else.

5:02

For example, Neil is proud of his kids.

5:05

And if you 'regret something', you feel sad about it

5:09

and wish that you had done it differently. For example,

5:13

I regret not running more.

5:14

I'm not very fit.

5:16

That's it for this episode of Real Easy English.
