0:00

hello everyone thank you for joining me

0:02

again and welcome to any new viewers

0:03

this is to the point English with Ben

0:05

I'm Ben and in this video I'm going to

0:08

give you six very useful tips on what to

0:11

do on exam day so this is for those of

0:14

you who have your Cambridge English

0:16

exams or any English exam uh coming up

0:19

in the next few days weeks or even

0:21

months now if you've been following my

0:24

YouTube channel for some time now you'll

0:26

know that I've made dozens and dozens of

0:28

videos on how to prepare for and pass

0:30

the Cambridge English exams or the B2

0:33

first C1 Advanced and C2 proficiency and

0:36

I've also have my online preparation

0:38

courses which give sort of all the

0:40

details and all my tips on strategy and

0:43

approach for those exams but I've

0:46

realized that I haven't actually made a

0:48

video on what to do on the day of the

0:50

exam and it's very important to think

0:52

about this because this is not just any

0:54

day right it's not just a normal day

0:56

it's it's quite a nerve-wracking and

0:59

possibly stress full day for many people

1:01

so it's a good idea to think about what

1:04

you're going to do on the the day of the

1:06

exam to make it as stress-free and and

1:09

pleasant as possible so that everything

1:11

runs smoothly and I think these tips

1:14

will really help you so let's go

1:15

straight to number one and we're

1:18

starting at the beginning of the day so

1:20

my first tip is to wake up early now if

1:22

you've seen my video on what to do the

1:24

day before the exam you'll know that I

1:26

really emphasize and stress that sleep

1:29

is extremely important the night before

1:31

the exam I don't recommend you study

1:34

late into the night or do these last

1:36

minute tasks because really you'll get

1:39

much more benefit from sleeping those

1:41

extra hours but I do recommend that you

1:43

wake up early so you'll have to go to

1:45

bed extra early the night before that's

1:48

very important to get at least eight

1:50

hours sleep you don't want to be rushing

1:53

around or worrying about last minute

1:55

things to do

1:56

um on the morning of the exam you want

1:58

your your mind to be as relaxed as

2:00

possible and to be focused on what you

2:02

have to do in the exam not worrying

2:05

about other things and that's why I also

2:08

recommend that you prepare your clothes

2:10

and anything you you're planning on

2:12

taking to the exam Center the night

2:14

before and all you have to do is have a

2:17

shower have breakfast put on your

2:19

clothes pick up your bag and go to the

2:21

exam Center you don't want to be

2:23

panicking about anything that the day of

2:26

the exam you just want to have plenty of

2:28

time and to be calm and be ready to to

2:31

leave your house to go to the exam

2:33

Center okay tip number two and perhaps

2:36

this is a bit of an unusual tip but it

2:38

is to eat your usual breakfast

2:41

now I get this tip from from running

2:43

I've run in in marathons and half

2:46

marathons and 10 kilometer races and the

2:49

recommendation for runners is always to

2:51

eat your usual breakfast don't try

2:53

anything different now you can probably

2:55

imagine why that's important for runners

2:57

you don't want to get an upset stomach

2:59

or anything like that in the middle of a

3:01

race but I think that's also true on

3:04

exam day right as I said it's going to

3:06

be a very nerve-wracking day it's quite

3:08

stressful

3:09

so you don't want to be eating things

3:11

you you wouldn't normally eat in the

3:13

morning for example you may think that

3:14

okay I need energy for today so I'm

3:16

going to eat a banana I don't recommend

3:19

that if you don't usually eat a banana

3:21

in the morning I know it's not a normal

3:22

day but you want to keep your dietary

3:25

routines the same as always because you

3:28

don't want any surprises and you don't

3:30

want any distractions in the middle of

3:32

the exam either okay so now it's time to

3:35

leave your house so tip number three is

3:37

to leave early

3:39

again that's probably pretty obvious but

3:41

you want to make give yourself plenty of

3:43

time to arrive at the The Exam Center as

3:47

I said in my video on what to do the day

3:49

before the exam you should have a clear

3:52

idea of how to to get to the exam Center

3:55

you if you're going by car the best

3:58

route if you're taking public transport

4:00

which lines to take or which buses to

4:02

take but however you're planning to go I

4:04

recommend you leave early again you

4:06

don't want any stress of getting stuck

4:07

in traffic or or having to run to the

4:10

exam Center at the last minute and

4:12

arriving out of breath and exhausted if

4:15

you need to travel by car then ask a

4:18

family member or a friend to give you a

4:20

lift so to take you in the car again you

4:23

don't want to be worried worrying about

4:25

stressful traffic situations are getting

4:28

stuck in traffic jams or finding a

4:30

parking place and if you can find

4:32

someone to take you they can worry about

4:34

that and you can just think about the

4:36

exam all the other alternative is to

4:38

take public trans transport which I also

4:40

recommend at least when you're on the

4:43

transport when you're on the Metro train

4:45

or the or the bus you don't need to

4:47

think about driving you can just focus

4:49

on the exam itself and that leads me on

4:52

to tip number four and tip number four

4:55

is to visualize the exam

4:58

so that's another reason why it's a good

5:00

idea to to get a lift from someone so

5:02

you don't have to drive or take public

5:04

transport so you can have time to think

5:06

about and visualize the exam and think

5:10

about what you're going to do in each

5:12

part of the exam think about literally

5:14

opening the exam paper for the reading

5:16

and use of English part one and thinking

5:19

about your strategy how you're going to

5:21

approach each part and for the speaking

5:24

paper think about walking into the exam

5:27

room with the interlocutor the assessor

5:30

your partner and again how you're going

5:32

to answer the first question or how

5:35

you're going to approach each part of

5:38

the exam hopefully it will calm you down

5:40

a little bit and give you some kind of

5:42

preparation for what you're going to

5:44

experience on that day okay so now

5:47

you've arrived at the exam Center you're

5:49

there what can you do now well you'll

5:51

probably have some time to wait because

5:53

hopefully you've arrived early enough

5:55

before the exam you should you should

5:57

arrive at least 40 minutes before the

5:59

exam that's what Cambridge recommend but

6:01

if you arrive even earlier that's fine

6:03

but in those minutes before the exam and

6:06

between each part I recommend that you

6:09

chat to other candidates if you can I

6:12

mean if you're very shy and maybe an

6:13

introvert you may find this a little bit

6:16

uncomfortable and awkward but I think

6:18

there are a couple of benefits to that

6:20

first of all

6:21

speaking to other people in the same

6:23

situation who are probably also nervous

6:25

and and feeling stressed it will

6:28

probably calm you both down I mean

6:30

you're both when you realize other

6:32

people feel like you do are in a similar

6:34

situation I think it will make you feel

6:37

slightly less less intimidated by the

6:40

whole experience

6:42

but also another benefit of speaking to

6:44

a candidate

6:46

um in the speaking exam if you can find

6:49

your partner before you enter the exam

6:51

room for the speaking paper you can talk

6:55

about strategy literally talk about

6:56

strategy for the exam so how you're

6:59

going to approach the interactive parts

7:02

of the exam so the collaborative tasks

7:04

and the discussions in the speaking

7:06

paper itself so that's a huge benefit

7:08

because then you don't need to worry

7:11

about interrupting each other too much

7:12

or the pleasantries and polite and who's

7:16

going to go first and who's going to

7:18

continue things like that so it's really

7:22

a huge benefit if you can speak to some

7:24

of the other candidates and the last tip

7:26

number six is relax and try to enjoy the

7:30

experience

7:31

now I know that's easy for me to say

7:34

because I'm not going to take the exam

7:37

um and it's very difficult to do in

7:39

practice because I know some people get

7:41

extremely nervous and extremely stressed

7:43

but just try to remember that this is

7:46

your opportunity it's an opportunity for

7:48

you to demonstrate your English level

7:49

and get that certificate you want so

7:51

badly yes you have to take it seriously

7:54

and hopefully you've prepared well over

7:56

the months before the exam but there's

7:58

nothing more you can do now so just

8:00

relax and try to enjoy the experience

8:03

stay focused throughout the exam of

8:05

course so I recommend you breathe take

8:08

deep breaths before you start each paper

8:10

of the exam and this really has a

8:14

scientific benefit when you breathe

8:16

slowly and deeply it sends a signal to

8:19

your brain that everything is okay there

8:21

is no imminent or immediate danger so

8:24

you can think more clearly and focus on

8:27

on what you're doing you need to be able

8:28

to control your nerves a little bit and

8:30

breathing deeply and slowly will help

8:33

but as I said yes it's a it's an exam

8:36

and yes you will be nervous but just try

8:38

to relax and enjoy the experience okay

8:41

if you have a couple more days before

8:43

your exam then check out my video on

8:46

where I give recommendations on what to

8:49

do the day before your exam I think

8:51

you'll find that useful but if you have

8:52

any more tips on what to do on the day

8:55

of an exam please share them in the

8:56

comments and help your your fellow

8:59

students and I'll see you very soon for

9:02

another video
